These budget-friendly hacks will keep your avo halves green and fresh.
Only true avo aficionados know the worst heartbreak to suffer is finding a half an avocado that’s gone bad in the fridge after hardly any time at all. We tested out three budget-friendly hacks to help keep this delicious delicacy greener and fresher for longer.

Hack 1: Storing the avo in water
Fill a container with water and store the avo pip-side down submerged in the water in the fridge and you’ll have a beautifully green avocado half waiting for you for up to two days. We give this hack a full 3 pips!
Hack 2: Storing the avo with onion
While this method does work well, it’s not for the faint of heart or the onion loather as the avo does tend to absorb some of that unique onion flavour. If onion-flavoured avo doesn’t get you down, we can confirm that avocado doesn’t brown when stored in the fridge with a wedge of onion in a container for up to two days. We give this hack 2 out of 3 pips because the onion flavour can be a bit off-putting!
Hack 3: Lemon and kitchen paper trick
For when that old lemon juice on avo trick lets you down, try covering the lemon-lathered avo with clean kitchen paper and then store in a ziplock bag for up to two days in the fridge. This easy little combo keeps your avo fresh and pleasingly green! This hack got a full 3 pips from us because it works and the lemon and avo flavour combo is always welcome.
