Ham and Cheese French Toast
|cheddar cheese — sliced
|ham — sliced
|bread — baguette
|salt and freshly ground black pepper
|butter — for frying
Place 4 cheese slices together with the ham slices on 4 bread slices.
Top with the remaining cheese and bread slices to make sandwiches.
Whisk together the eggs, milk and salt and pepper. Carefully dip the sandwiches into the egg mixture and let them soak well.
Heat the butter in a large frying pan over high heat.
Cook the sandwiches in batches for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden and cheese is melted.
Hint: Leave out the ham and serve the cheesy french toast with preserves such as figs or oranges.
