MAKE PASTRY: 1 cup flour; pinch salt; 2tsp baking powder; 2tbs butter, 1/2 cup milk; 1 tsp sugar. Sift dry ingredients. Blend in butter, Stir in milk with knife. Knead slightly and line dish.
FILLING: 1 tin asparagus (2 better), 6-8 onions coarsely chopped, 1 egg 1/2 cup cream, 2tbs butter, 1 cup grated cheese. Simmer onions in butter till tender. Add salt & pepper. Cool slightly and spread on dough. Combine cream, egg & little juice from asparagus. Add salt. Arrange asparagus on top of onions and pour over cream mixture. Stir gently so juice goes through to onions.Top with cheese.
Bake in 220°C oven for 20 minutes.
Can be served hot or cold.
Asparagus can be substituted for mushrooms or blanched broccoli.i
