Ingredients

 
  • 50
    ml
    Golden syrup
  • 125
    g
    Butter, melted
  • 30
    ml
    milk
  • 1
    egg
  • 750
    ml
    Cake flour
  • 3
    ml
    salt
  • 5
    ml
    Bicarbonate of soda
  • 15
    ml
    ground ginger
  • 125
    ml
    brown sugar
  • sweets for decoration
  • good quantity royal icing
 
 

Method

 
Preheat oven t0 180 C and grease a large baking sheet. Beat together the syrup, butter, milk and egg.Sift together dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, add the egg mixture and mix to form smooth dough. Cover dough and refrigerate until firm. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2mm and cut out walls and roofs. Arrange on prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15 min or until brown. Cool on baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely. Pipe thick line of icing along sides of pieces and press the iced sides together. Decorate with sweets.
