Viennas in batter

  • 250
    Vienna sausages
  • 250
    flour (1 cup)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1
    cayenne pepper (1/2 tsp)
  • 1
  • 180
    milk (3/4 cup)
  • 5
    baking powder (1 tsp)
  • Oil for deep frying and sesame seeds and chopped parsley to garnish


10 minutes
Sift flour and salt together.
Beat egg and milk, then add to dry ingredients gradually, mixing until smooth.
Stir in baking powder.
Slice Viennas in half and dip halves into batter, leaving the cut ends uncovered.
Drop into hot oil and brown on both sides.
Drain on kitchen paper and decorate with sesame seeds and chopped parsley.
Insert toothpicks into Viennas as holders and serve with a chilli dip.
