Portuguese steaks with tomato rice

    olive oil

    cloves garlic, crushed

    chilli sauce

    porterhouse or rump steaks

    onion, chopped

    tomatoes, peeled and chopped

    green pepper, chopped

    small broccoli florets

    packet Portuguese-flavour rice seasoning mix

Mix 25 ml olive oil, garlic and chilli sauce together. Rub into steaks and marinate while you prepare the rice.
Heat remaining oil and sauté onion until soft. Add tomatoes, green pepper and broccoli and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Add rice to the pan along with 800 ml water and rice seasoning mix. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until rice is tender.
Stir in the cooked vegetables. Keep warm while you cook the steaks.
Heat the butter in a heavy-based frying pan. When hot, add the steaks and fry until cooked to taste. Serve immediately with a portion of rice.
