Curried meatballs

  • Curried meatballs:
  • 1
    good quality ground beef
  • 6
    slices of white bread
  • 1
    medium onion grated
  • 2

  • chopped coriander
  • zest and juice of a lemon
  • 2
    curry powder
  • Banana and onion relish
  • 2
    large onions - peeled and sliced thinly
  • 1
    thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, sliced in thin matchsticks
  • 2
    curry powder
  • 1/2
  • 2
    white wine vinegar or pineapple vinegar
  • vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 3
    bananas, peeled and sliced

Curried meatballs
Soak the bread in water.
When the bread is completely drenched, squeeze out the water and mix with all the other ingredients.
Form meatballs and fry in vegetable oil until cooked.

Banana and Onion Relish

Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions and ginger with the curry powder and the turmeric.
The onions must be soft, but still hold their texture.
Add the sugar and the vinegar and let the relish cook until the liquid is all gone. This should take 1-2 minutes.
Taste and season.
Add the sliced bananas and let it just stand for a while so that the flavors can infuse the bananas. Do not cook the bananas.

Serve on a slice bread with fresh rocket and watercress and a helping of parsnip crisps on the side.
