Cauliflower curry

  • 15 ml oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 5 ml cumin seeds
  • 5 ml mustard seeds
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 medium cauliflower, broken into florets
  • 5 ml chilli powder
  • 2 ml turmeric
  • 5 ml ground coriander
  • 5 ml ground cumin
  • 10 ml masala powder
  • juice of 1 lemon


Heat the oil in a large pan or wok.
Fry the onion and seeds over a medium heat until light brown and the seeds crackle.
Add the potatoes and fry for two to three minutes.
Add the cauliflower and fry for five to six minutes.
Stir in the remaining ingredients.
Cover and cook gently for 10 to 15 minutes, until the vegetables are cooked, adding a little water if the mixture sticks.
Do not stir or the vegetables will break up.
Serve hot as an accompaniment to curry, or serve with Indian bread.
