Sweet and sour sauce

    ml
    white wine vinegar
  • 120
    ml
    sugar
  • 200
    ml
    chicken stock or water
  • 10
    ml
    sunflower or sesame oil
  • 15
    ml
    fresh grated ginger, or
  • 5
    ml
    dried ginger
  • 20
    ml
    soya sauce
  • 20
    ml
    tomato paste
  • 30
    ml
    cornflour
  • a few sliced spring onions (optional)
 

Method

 
Heat all ingredients except the cornflour and spring onions in a saucepan.
Mix the cornflour with a little water and stir into the sauce. Stir over a medium heat until thickened.
Add the spring onions if using and serve hot with stir-fries, spring rolls and other Oriental-style dishes.
