Sweet and sour meatballs (Japanese recipe)

  • MEAT
  • 500
    g
    mince
  • egg
  • 1
    onion, finely chopped
  • 30
    g
    soft breadcrumbs
  • 5
    ml
    ginger root juice (grate the ginger root and press out the juice)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • oil for deep-frying
  • SAUCE
  • 250
    ml
    water
  • 60
    ml
    soy sauce
  • 30
    ml
    sugar
  • 50
    ml
    grape vinegar
  • cornflour
 

Method

 
Mix all the ingredients for the meat and season to taste with salt and pepper. Roll into small balls. Heat enough oil in a saucepan for deep-frying and fry the balls until brown. Drain on kitchen towelling. Blend all the ingredients for the sauce and heat to boiling point. Thicken with a little cornflour blended with a little water. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and serve. Serves 4.
