Sticky gingerbread bars

    self-raising flour
  • 12
    ml
    mixed spice
  • pinch salt
  • 17
    ml
    aniseed
  • 450
    g
    golden syrup
  • 250
    ml
    milk
  • 5
    ml
    bicarbonate of soda
 

Method

+/- 20 min
 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC and spray a 43 x 32 cm baking tray with non-stick spray or butter lightly. Sift the dry ingredients together and add the aniseed. Heat the syrup and milk together, stir in the bicarbonate of soda and gradually add to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously. Mix well and turn into the prepared baking tray. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Cool, cut into bars or squares and cool in the baking tray. Do not overbake - the bars shouls still be slightly sticky. Makes about 42 bars.
