Steak pie

    oil

    bunch spring onions, sliced
  • 3
    cloves garlic, crushed
  • 700

    rump steak, cubed
  • 1
    red chilli, chopped
  • 300

    beef stock
  • 15
    ml
    cornflour
  • 15

    fresh coriander, chopped
  • 400
    g
    ready-rolled puff pastry, thawed
  • 1
    large egg, lightly beaten
 

Method

Heat oil in a saucepan, add onions and garlic and sauté lightly.
Add the beef cubes and sauté for about five minutes.
Add the chilli and stock to the saucepan and simmer for five minutes.
Mix cornflour with 30 ml water, add to the saucepan and stir for two minutes.
Add coriander, remove from heat and cool.
Place the filling in a pie dish and top with the pastry, pressing gently around the edge with a fork to seal.
Brush with egg, make a small incision and bake in a preheated 200 °C oven for 20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
