Spaghetti with meatballs

Ingredients

  • 500
    g
    spaghetti
  • MEATBALLS
  • 800
    g
    mince
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2
    ml
    baking powder
  • 1
    large onion, grated and sautéed
  • 2
    slices bread (crusts removed), soaked in milk
  • 50
    ml
    fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • salt
  • oil for frying
  • TOMATO SAUCE
  • 1
    onion, sliced
  • 400
    g
    tomatoes, chopped
  • 10
    ml
    sugar
  • 15
    ml
    Worcestershire sauce
  • salt
  • black pepper
 

Method

20 mins
 
Cook spaghetti in rapidly boiling salted water until just soft.
Drain and set aside.
Combine all ingredients for the meatballs, season to taste with salt and shape into small balls.
Fry in a little oil until cooked.
Sauté onion in a little oil until soft.
Add tomatoes and simmer until a fairly thick sauce is formed.
Season with sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
Place spaghetti on a serving platter, top with the meatballs and pour over the sauce.
Serve with parmesan or grated cheddar cheese and a mixed salad.
Serves 4.
