Sesame beef with onion marmalade

    slices eye fillet
  • 125

    sesame seeds
  • salt
  • MARINADE
  • 65
    ml
    sesame oil
  • 45
    ml
    brown sugar
  • 65
    ml
    soy sauce
  • 30
    ml
    finely chopped shallots
  • 2
    cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2
    ml
    freshly grated ginger
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
 

Method

 
Place beef in a glass dish big enough to take it lying flat. Mix marinade ingredients together and pour over beef. Cover with clingwrap and refrigerate overnight, turning several times. Drain marinade from beef, return to room temperature (this will take about three to four hours). Reserve marinade. Cook beef on well-oiled barbecue and seal, cook for six to eight minutes on each side. Turn meat once only, just before serving. Scatter a small amount of sesame seeds on top of each piece and season to taste. Serve with onion marmalade.
