    cabbage, shredded and cooked

    bacon, finely chopped

    large onion, finely chopped

    cake flour

    mustard powder
  • 1
    ml
    pepper
  • 2
    ml

    ml
    milk
  • 1
    extra-large egg, beaten
  • 80

    Cheddar cheese, grated
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Grease an ovenproof dish. Mix the potatoes and cabbage and season to taste with salt and pepper. Fry the bacon until crisp and set aside. Sauté the onion in the pan fat until soft. Add to the potato mixture and mix. Spoon half the potato mixture into the prepared dish. Sprinkle with the bacon pieces and spoon the remaining potato mixture on top, spreading evenly. Melt the margarine in a pan, add the cake flour and cook, stirring continuously. Add the seasonings and mix. Slowly add the milk and bring to the boil, stirring continuously. Remove from the heat and cool slightly. Add half the cheese and the egg, mixing well. Spoon on top of the potato mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining Cheddar cheese and bake for about 30 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the top is golden brown.
