Pork meatballs with apple sauce

  • 1
    kg
    pork sausages, casing removed
  • 50
    ml
    fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2
    green apples, peeled and grated
  • 2
    ml
    dried sage
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1
    extra-large egg, lightly beaten
  • fresh breadcrumbs for coating the meatballs
  • oil for frying
  • SAUCE
  • 4
    green apples, peeled and diced
  • 15
    ml
    sugar
  • 3
    whole cloves
  • 25
    ml
    water
  • 30
    ml
    butter
  • few drops lemon juice
 

Method

 
Combine the pork sausage meat, breadcrumbs and apple. Add the sage and salt and pepper to taste. Add the egg and mix well. Shape into meatballs and coat with the fresh breadcrumbs. Heat enough oil in a pan and fry the meatballs until golden brown and cooked. Drain on kitchen towelling. Place the apples, sugar, cloves and water in a saucepan and simmer until soft. Remove the cloves and mash well. Add the butter and lemon juice and mix. Chill. Serve with the meatballs.
