Mulled wine

    dry red wine
  • 2
    oranges, juice and thinly cut peel
  • 12
    whole cloves
  • 1
    cinnamon stick
  • 5
    ml
    grated nutmeg
  • 180
    g
    sugar
  • 125
    ml
    brandy
  • 1
    orange, thinly sliced
 

Method

 
Pour wine into a large saucepan and add orange juice and peel, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar.
Heat gently until just steaming, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar.
Remove from stove, cover and allow to stand for 10 minutes.
Heat again, then remove from stove, discard orange peel, cloves and cinnamon.
Stir in brandy.
Decorate with orange slices and serve hot.
