Mince with scone topping

    quantity basic mince mixture

    red wine

    Worcestershire sauce

    cake flour

    butter or margarine
  • 175
    ml
    milk
  • 1
    egg yolk
  • 15
    ml
    sesame seeds
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF) Sauté the garlic and mushrooms in the hot oil along with the other vegetables from the basic mince mixture. Follow the instructions for the basic mince but replace 50 ml of the stock with the red wine and add the Worcestershire sauce. Turn into an ovenproof dish. Sift the cake flour, baking powder and salt together. Rub in the butter. Add just enough milk to form a soft dough. Blend with a spatula. Roll on a lightly floured surface and cut 1 cm thick rounds with a biscuit cutter. Place on top of the mince mixture. Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the scones are baked through. Serves 4.
