Marinated lamb kebabs (Sis kebab)

Ingredients

  • 1
    large onion, peeled and grated
  • 30
    ml
    lemon juice
  • 2
    chillies, chopped
  • 60
    ml
    olive oil, plus extra for brushing
  • 2
    ml
    freshly ground black pepper
  • 600
    g
    boned leg of lamb
  • 4
    medium tomatoes, cut into quarters
  • 1
    red pepper
  • 10
    ml
    dried origanum
 

Method

10 minutes
 
Mix grated onion, lemon juice, chillies, olive oil and freshly ground black pepper. Pour over meat, cut into 3 cm cubes, cover and marinate in fridge for at least four hours. Scrape seeds out of tomato quarters. Thread lamb cubes, tomato quarters and peppers, cut into 3 cm cubes, onto kebab sticks. Brush with oil and grill on the braai or under a medium-hot grill for about five minutes on each side. Season with salt and sprinkle with the origanum before serving.
