    slices brown bread, crusts removed
  • butter or margarine seasoned with mustard powder

    cooked, seasoned mince or vegetables

    onion, sliced
  • 2
    cloves garlic, crushed

    tomatoes, skinned and sliced

    Cheddar cheese, grated

    milk

    black pepper

    ml
    mustard powder
  • pinch cayenne pepper
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Spread both sides of the bread slices with the mustard butter. Arrange in an ovenproof dish. Add the mince and level with the back of a spoon. Sauté the onion and garlic in a little heated oil until soft. Sprinkle over the mince. Arrange the tomato slices on top and season lightly with salt and pepper and a pinch of basil. Sprinkle with the cheese. Beat the remaining ingredients together and pour over the dish. Bake for 40 - 50 minutes or until the egg mixture has set. Serves 6.
