    large onions, sliced into rings
  • 3
    large cloves garlic, crushed

    stewing steak, cubed
  • 250
    g
    shoulder bacon, fatty edge removed
  • 250

    fresh button mushrooms thickly sliced
  • 7
    ml
    Italian herb mixture
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 15
    ml
    steak and chops seasoning
  • 410
    g
    tomato and onion mix
  • 125
    ml
    red wine
 

Method

 
Preheat oil in a hot saucepan and sauté; the onions and garlic until tender and fragrant. Add the meat and stir-fry until brown. Add the bacon and mushrooms and stir-fry until done. Add the herb mixture and seasonings and stir-fry for about one minute. Add the tomato and onion mix and red wine, reduce the heat and cover. Simmer until the meat is tender and done. Serve with mashed potatoes or oven-baked polenta (see recipe).
