    onions, finely chopped

    mince

    uncooked rice
  • 5
    ml
    basil
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper

    mixed vegetables
  • 50
    ml
    tomato sauce
  • 30
    ml
    chutney
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • 90
    g
    tomato soup powder
 

Method

 
Sauté the onion in a little oil until tender. Add the mince and fry until done. Add the uncooked rice and one litre (4 c) water. Season with basil and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer until the rice is tender and cooked and most of the water has been absorbed. Add the can of vegetables (do not drain) and season with tomato sauce, chutney and a little Worcestershire sauce to taste. Add the tomato soup powder, stirring well until blended. Simmer until the mixture thickens slightly and the soup powder is cooked through. Serve with a salad. Serves 4-6.
