Healthy fruit crumble

Ingredients

  • 500
    g
    packet mixed frozen fruit (or 500 g fresh berries)
  • 250
    ml
    orange juice
  • 65
    ml
    brown sugar
  • 2
    ml
    mixed spice
  • 2
    cloves (or 2 ml ground cloves)
  • 375
    ml
    flour
  • 125
    ml
    castor sugar
  • 120
    g
    margarine
  • cinnamon to sprinkle
  • 15
    ml
    cornflour
 

Method

Place the fruit, orange juice, sugar and mixed spice in a bowl and soak for about 30 minutes.
Drain and reserve the juice.
Place the fruit in a 24 cm pie dish.
Mix flour and castor sugar, rub in margarine until the mixture is crumbly, and spoon over the fruit.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake in a preheated 180 °C oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix cornflour with the reserved orange juice, heat and allow to thicken.
Serve sauce separately.
If desired, serve with cream or custard.
