Ham chilli bites

    brown bread flour

    baking powder

    dry mustard
  • 2

    bicarbonate of soda
  • 10
    ml
    sugar
  • 10
    ml
    dried, crushed chillies
  • 2
    ml
    salt
  • 100
    g
    ham, chopped
  • 2
    bunches spring onions, finely sliced
  • 90
    g
    butter
  • 175
    ml
    buttermilk
  • milk
 

Method

 
Combine all the dry ingredients with the ham and spring onions. Using a pair of sharp knives or a pastry cutter, cut in the butter until the flour is the consistency of breadcrumbs. Mix in the buttermilk. Roll out the dough 1 cm thick and cut into 5 cm circles. Place on an ungreased baking tray and brush tops with milk. Bake in preheated 200 ºC oven until the biscuits have risen and the tops are slightly browned, about 20 minutes.
