Clown cake

    sugar

    oil
  • 10
    ml
    vanilla essence
  • 70
    g
    Maizena
  • 270
    g
    cake flour
  • 20
    ml
    baking powder
  • 2
    ml
    salt
  • Icing
  • 500
    g
    butter
  • 2
    kg
    icing sugar
  • 10
    ml
    vanilla essence
  • red, green, pink, yellow and blue food colouring
  • Liquorice Allsorts, to decorate
 

Method

35 minutes
 
CAKE
Beat egg yolks and sugar with 50ml water until thick. Mix in another 200ml water, along with the oil and vanilla essence.
Sift together remaining ingredients and combine gently with egg mixture.
Whisk egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. Pour into a greased and lined 25 x 30cm cake tin. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until cooked through.

ICING
Beat together icing ingredients, except food colouring and decoration, until thick and smooth, adding 10 to 20ml hot water if necessary. Divide icing between five separate bowls and colour each with a different food colour, as required.
