Chinese red cabbage

    butter

    onion, sliced into rings

    red cabbage, shredded
  • 6
    star anise
  • 30
    ml
    soft brown sugar
  • 30
    ml
    red wine vinegar
  • 2
    bay leaves
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
 

Method

 
Melt the butter in a large pan. Sauté the onion until tender and add the cabbage. Stir-fry lightly. Add the remaining ingredients and about 150 ml (3/5 c) boiling water. Simmer until the cabbage is tender but still slightly crisp.
