    soft brown sugar

    molasses or golden syrup

    beer
  • 450
    ml
    wholewheat flour

    bicarbonate of soda
  • 5
    ml
    cinnamon
  • 3
    ml
    salt
  • 7
    ml
    ground ginger
  • 15
    ml
    grated ginger preserve
  • whipped cream
 

Method

40-45 minutes
 
Preheat the oven to 160 ºC (325 ºF). Spray a 20 x 20 cm cake tin with non-stick spray. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, molasses or golden syrup and beer. Sift the wholewheat flour, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon, salt and ginger together. Add to the butter mixture and mix. Add the grated ginger, mix and turn the batter into the prepared cake. tin. Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes or until a testing skewer comes out clean. Serve hot with sweetened whipped cream. Makes a medium loaf.
