Ingredients (8)

875.00 ml flour — wholewheat
5.00 ml salt
60.00 ml poppy seeds
10.00 g Superbake Instant Yeast
30.00 ml honey
40.00 ml fresh chillies — 573
300.00 ml water — lukewarm
8.00 figs — halved or quartered

Method:

In a large mixing bowl sift together the flour and salt. Add the bran left in the sieve to the sifted flour. Add the poppy seeds and yeast and mix lightly.

Blend the honey and oil with the water and add just enough of the liquid to the flour mixture to form a pliable dough. Knead for a few minutes or until the dough is elastic.

Flatten the dough to 2 cm thick and shape into a 25×18 cm oval. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet.

Arrange the figs on top of the dough, cover and leave in a warm place for 20 minutes to rise until nearly doubled in volume.

Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until brown and done.
