Broccoli and sesame beef

    beef fillet, rump or sirloin

    sesame oil
  • 2
    cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2

    finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 250

    broccoli, broken into florets

    spring onions, chopped
  • SAUCE
  • 15
    ml
    soy sauce
  • 5
    ml
    rice wine (mirin) or dry sherry
  • 5
    ml
    sugar
  • 15
    ml
    hoisin sauce
  • 10
    ml
    cornflour
  • salt and milled black pepper
  • 30
    ml
    sesame seeds
 

Method

 
Slice meat thinly against the grain. Place in refrigerator. Heat wok, add oil and allow to heat briefly. Add garlic and ginger and stir-fry for about 1 minute. Add broccoli and spring onions and stir-fry for a further minute. Push vegetables up side of wok. Add beef and brown quickly. Add all sauce ingredients, except sesame seeds. Stir to thicken slightly. Toss all ingredients together, sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately, with rice. TOTAL KILOJOULE COUNT: 6 895 kJ (1 650 Cal). A portion: 1 380 kJ (330 Cal).
