    onions, sliced
  • oil for frying

    tomato sauce

    white grape vinegar
  • 250
    ml
    sugar
  • 15
    ml
    salt
  • 10

    dry mustard powder
  • 5
    ml
    mild curry powder
  • 15
    ml
    cornflour
  • 65
    ml
    water
 

Method

 
Sauté the onions in the oil in a large, deep saucepan until tender and translucent. Remove from the pan and set aside. Place all the ingredients for the sauce, except the cornflour and water, in the saucepan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Blend the cornflour and water to form a paste and add to the sauce. Bring to the boil while stirring continually, return the onions to the saucepan and simmer again for about 2 minutes. Spoon into clean containers and store in the fridge. Alternatively, the sauce may be frozen. Makes 1,8 litres sauce and serves 35.
