Ingredients (22)

2.00 slices white bread — thick, stale
250.00 ml water
2.00 onions — large, chopped
15.00 ml vegetable oil
50.00 ml butter
800.00 g beef mince
3.00 garlic — cloves, crushed
15.00 ml masala
5.00 ml turmeric
10.00 ml cumin — ground
10.00 ml coriander — ground
3.00 cloves — whole
2.00 ml black peppercorns
5.00 allspice
125.00 ml sultanas
60.00 ml almonds — flaked
5.00 ml dried mixed herbs
25.00 ml chutney
salt and freshly ground black pepper — to taste
6.00 lemon leaves
250.00 ml milk
2.00 eggs — beaten

Method:

1. Soak bread in water. Fry onions in oil and butter until just transparent.
2. Place all other ingredients except bread, lemon leaves, milk and egg in a large bowl and mix.
4. Add fried onions in oil to mixture. Squeeze water from bread, add to meat and mix well.
4. Spread in a greased ovenproof dish. Roll lemon leaves into spikes and insert into the mixture.
5. Bake at 180 ºC for 30 minutes. Lightly beat eggs and milk together and pour over meat. Bake until egg mixture has set.
6. Serve with yellow rice.
