Baked apples

    large green apples, cored (use an apple corer or a small knife)
  • 250
    g
    dates, chopped
  • a few pieces stick cinnamon
  • 250
    ml
    golden syrup
  • vanilla ice cream to serve
 

Method

 
Preheat oven to 180 ºC. Using a sharp knife, cut around circumference of apple just deep enough to pierce the skin and prevent apples bursting during baking. Fill the core of each apple with dates and a few pieces of cinnamon. Place in a baking dish and drizzle with golden syrup. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until apple skin is golden and dates are puffed up. Top with a dollop of ice cream, drizzle with juices from baking dish and serve.
