Method

 
Beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in flour and baking powder and stir in milk. Pour into an ovenproof dish large enough to take 2 litres (8 cups) comfortably. Arrange pie apples on top and sprinkle generously with cinnamon. Bake at 180 ºC, undisturbed, until set, about 1 hour. CARAMEL SAUCE: Boil all ingredients together, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Pour over apple pie as soon as it comes from the oven and serve hot.
