Southern deep fried chicken

    whole chicken
  • 500
    ml
    buttermilk
  • 6
    egg yolks
  • 240
    g
    cake wheat flour
  • 125
    ml
    cornflakes (plain)
  • 10

    salt

    crushed garlic
  • 30
    ml
    brown onion soup powder
  • 15

    cayenne pepper
  • 5
    ml
    spice for chicken
  • fyring oil

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash chicken and pat dry with paper towels.

Pour buttermilk into a large bowl.

Place chicken into bowl and refrigerate for about 4 hours.

In another large bowl, crush cornflakes, add flour, salt, garlic, onion powder, cayenne pepper and spice for chicken.

Remove chicken from the fridge.

Place flour mixture in a plastic bag to coat chicken.   

Place egg yolks in a small bowl and beat until smooth.

Dip one piece of chicken at a time into the egg yolks and then shake the chicken in the flour mixture in the plastic.    

Repeat twice for each piece of chicken.

Allow chicken to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before frying.    

Heat oil in a medium saucepan, place chicken into hot oil and cook until done.

The chicken should be golden brown, use tongs to turn the chicken.
