Renowned South African chef and restaurateur Bertus Basson released his second cookbook in 2018 called “Being Bertus Basson”. The book focuses on recipes that are rooted in the food experiences of his childhood and touches on menu items from his successful restaurants, offering an inside look into the stories behind them. We’ve featured a couple of recipes from the book on Food24, such as the mouthwatering milk tart milkshake, but one that stood out above the rest and was Food24’s most clicked-on recipe for 2021 was his tomato bredie samoosas.
This recipe is a genius mashup of two popular South African foods: the vessel being the samoosa dough and the filling being the bredie meat, which is slowly braised for three hours, resulting in a rich and flavour-packed mouthful of comfort. And that’s what we’re all needing after another tough year. So we urge you to make them and share them with those you love. We think Bertus would approve.
