Highly anticipated Joburg restaurant, Marble, launches in style
There have been many anticipated restaurants this year creating a whirlwind of social media posts causing a ripple effect across the food world in SA.
One of these restaurants launched in Joburg last night at an exclusive, invite-only event. The brand new Marble created a fire last night both literally and figuratively. Food people, media people, celebrities and other eager diners gathered at the new open-fire eatery in Rosebank.
The sleek, industrial yet polished contemporary space, served a crowd from its vast open kitchen. One of the most beautiful aspects of the decor is a wall adorned in turquoise and aqua ceramic tiles by Mervyn Gers Ceramics and of course the many marble covered surfaces.
The look and feel of the place combined with Higgs’ notoriety will no doubt afford Marble a spot in best restaurants lists to come. Higgs has opened the restaurant in partnership with local businessman Gary Kyriacou.
Marble‘s main feature is that the food served will be cooked over flames, so you’ll see roaring fires in the kitchen beneath large grids. They will be focusing the menu on quality cuts of meat, so you can expect exceptional steaks.
David Higgs previously worked at Five Hundred at the Saxon beginning in 2012 and leaving last year to start his own venture. Because of Higgs, Five Hundred was decorated in titles for being one of the best restaurants in Joburg. Five Hundred ceased to exist upon Higg’s resignation. Currently the restaurant space is hosting a collaboration with Luke Dale Roberts and Saxon head chef Candice Philip.
Marble opens next Tuesday 16 August, so get booking!
