Hamburg Consumer Protection Centre proved that not all heroes wear capes when they revealed that Nutella had changed their recipe without telling their consumers. The hazelnut spread will now contains 8.7 percent powdered skimmed milk and their sugar content has increased to 56.3 percent.

The Italian company which makes Nutella, confirmed that they have changed the recipe a little bit but promised that there would be no difference in the taste of the product. Nutella will however, be lighter in colour because of the powdered milk and decreased quantity of cacao.

Ferrero was reported in Malaysian digest saying: “The quality, the sourcing and all other aspects of Nutella ingredients remain the same, the ingredients list is, as usual, displayed on the jar and on the Nutella web page. All relevant aspects, from a diet perspective, are the same.”

It is assumed that the changes come following the recent nut shortages in Turkey, as reported by CNN Money.

Fans of the chocolatey spread gave their opinions on social media:

If the rumors of #Nutella changing their recipe are true, I am boycotting them. https://t.co/583I7virnR
