I would not go to Trinity for a gourmet dining experience. It’s a club (and they have a lot on the go) which makes it a very attractive destination for any excuse to put on your “number ones” and get out of the house.

I intend to go back soon with some friends for their Tuesday night comedy slot and I’ll definitely have something to eat in the restaurant – but don’t go there expecting a Michelin star meal.

They have 3 different sections to the restaurant – Trinity Café, Trinity East and Trinity Grill. Which pretty much covers everything your heart desires.

The food
The Trinity Café menu boasts burgers (R65) and pizzas (Margherita R50) and café style pastas and salads. The Trinity East menu consists of tempura, dim sum, sushi (combo deluxe platter R160) and seafood compositions such as herbed steamed crayfish (R135) and salmon tartar (R55).  The Trinity Grill menu sports steaks (300g fillet R140 and 750g T-bone R150) and crowd pleasers like roast pork belly (R115) and Thai chicken curry (R115) and fish and chips (R90).

The restaurants cover 3 floors plus a very cool rooftop veranda area where you can smoke and sit outside feeling somewhat Sex in the Cityish.

I went there for dinner recently with Baglett, hilarious Jozi girl about town, award winning blogger and our restaurant reviewer up North. We had a very enjoyable evening at the venue – it was my first time meeting her in person so I was a tad nervous, (she’s pretty famous online you know), but when you walk into Trinity you get a feeling that this is where it’s happening and this is where you’re supposed to be.

Baglett had the beef teriyaki (R70), which she declared to be a little overdone and too salty. I had the calamari (R80) – and in Baglett’s words…”My God! That calamari!” … Yes, it was special, and I‘d go back for it in a heartbeat. We shared the dim sum which was stodgy and chewy (not possible if you get dim sum right) and the dipping sauce was very average. I’d avoid the dim sum until you hear a better review.

The desserts were sublime I have to say. The sticky toffee pudding at R40 was the clear winner for me.

The special
They have a R50 pizza special Monday-Sat from 12pm – 7pm – I’d definitely check that out (I have a feeling their pizzas will be good). And everyone who dines at Trinity gets to enjoy the rest of the evening’s entertainment for free, which shrieks bargain to me as the comedy night is 50 bucks a ticket anyway.

Go to Trinity – it’s the kind of place that is begging to show your fun side a good time.

Perfect for
As far as trendy clubs go, it’s a pretty awesome venue. Release the hounds.
