Fast, fun and entertaining, the pizza challenge was a great episode.

Set on beautiful Camps Bay beach in Cape Town on a very windy day, the contestants were introduced to 2 amazing food trucks, 'Limoncello' and 'The Good Life'.

MasterChef judge Pete Goffe-Wood explained that food trucks are mobile kitchens that move to different locations to produce and serve gourmet cuisine to locals and tourists alike. “It’s a funky, affordable alternative to traditional restaurants,” he explained.

The top 14 were split into 2 teams (red and blue) to cook inside each of the gorgeous food trucks. It's not the easiest as it's a bit of a squeeze.

The challenge: To make 2 x pizzas - 1 savoury and 1 dessert pizza.
Time: 90 minutes to prepare everything, 30 minutes to cook 10 pizzas

“We’re quite happy with the choices that we made,” said Karen as her team loaded chorizo and crispy duck onto their pizzas, with caramelized onions and crème fraîche.

“The Blue Team made a beautiful savoury pizza with some crispy chorizo, buffalo mozzarella, some button mushrooms and chanterelle mushrooms with a cream sauce, with a little hint of a truffle-infused olive oil,” Andrew told the bloggers, who loved the chanterelle mushroom sauce and the thin and crispy crust, but they also complained that the pizzas weren’t big enough, and that some of them were a bit burnt.

Food Bloggers

The judges of the pizza were some of SA's top food bloggers and it was so lovely to see them on the telly. Well done Drizzleanddip, Georgous Blog, Foodandthefab, Realmencancook and Mzansistylecuisine who share their passion on our beautiful blogs, and great to see Aubrey, Gourmet Guys, JoziFoodfix and Miss Matlala as well.

Dessert pizza

The Blue Team prepared a Mocha base with some Crème Fraîche, a trio of ganache and basil coulis, with berries and spun sugar. “The greatest dessert pizza I’ve ever laid my eyes on,” one blogger swooned.

The Red Team served the food bloggers a crème fraîche, stone peaches and pistachio nuts pizza with white chocolate ganache infused with thyme.

The Blue Team mastered the pizza oven by cooking the base prior to topping it so the chocolate wouldn't melt - very clever!

A 10/10 vote for the dessert to The Blue Team put them in the winners seat. Amazing comeback.

Prize: They won a MasterClass with Chef Chris Erasmus of the Pierneef La Motte restaurant on the La Motte wine estate outside Franschhoek.

Lucky fishes!

Would you eat a dessert pizza?
