1. Yoghurt

According to CNN, you can expect to see more veggies in your yoghurt. Carrot, beetroot, butternut, and tomato will add interesting colours and flavours to the morning staple. Ice cream will follow suit on the veggie front; if we can have carrot cake, why not carrot ice cream. In addition, Greek yoghurt will have some competition in the form of Israeli and Lebanese yoghurts.

2. Villain diets are out

It's all about balance and moderation. 2015 won't be pointing fingers at gluten, dairy, or carbs as much as before. As long as food is high quality, well raised, or less refined.

3. Freekeh

We've all tried quinoa and we know how to pronounce it (keen-wa) but now there's a new ancient grain on the block; freekeh (freak-eh.) It is wheat that has been harvested while it's still young and green, and then it is roasted. It's full of fibre and cooks quickly. It does contain gluten, but the structure is different so it might not trigger an allergy.

4. Matcha

Green tea? Yawn. Matcha is finely ground green tea powder made from the entire tea leaf, which means it's loaded with antioxidants. It's nothing new and dates back to centuries ago. Look out for it at your local health shop and, who knows; it may just be your cuppa tea, or maybe even a new macaron flavour.

5. Bugs!

According to Baum + Whiteman, international food and restaurant consultants, we will start welcoming creepy crawlies in our kitchens. It might take some time to become popular in the Western world, but if you've ever been to a night market in Thailand, you would have seen that bugs are already a big hit. The thought of crunchy crickets or sun-dried Mopane worms might gross you out, but once they're pulverised into a fine powder, you won't even notice that your food is fortified with a high-protein boost.

6. Root vegetables

Cauliflower, the vegetable du jour of 2014 may share the stage, as interesting root vegetables step into the spotlight. Cue radishes, celery root, and parsnips - who needs potatoes, anyway?

7. Artisanal candy

Gourmet brownies, cupcakes, macarons, and ice cream have all seduced your sweet tooth. Bread, beer, coffee, and chocolate have all gone artisanal. How about saying hello to small sweet bites of ice cream gummies or goat’s milk caramels with sea salt and bourbon?

8. Spanish cuisine

Paella has been a hit at gourmet food markets. Say hello to more spicy, shareable Spanish cousins, especially Tapas.

9. Gin makes you grin

Gin is set to be the liquor of 2015. We already have a gin bar in Cape Town!

10. Hemp seeds

We are over chia seeds. Hemp seeds offer a nutty flavour with a nutritional kick of omega 3s.

What do you predict?
