Bree Street bistro, La Tête, continues to deliver fresh flavours

Winter in the Cape is in full force and while everyone is hibernating, Chef Owner Giles Edwards is quietly, persistently, delivering simple and delicious dishes.

The name, 'the head' in French, evokes strong images of nose-to-tail dishes, but in reality the menu is much more approachable. The French styled bistro, has earned a devoted of Cape Town diners, both meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

The menu changes daily, with Chef Giles relying heavily on fresh produce from hyperlocal farmers. This week saw fresh kohlrabi, porcini, fennel and sea spinach adding bright, crisp textures to the lunch spread.

The Lunch winter special is available Tuesday to Friday, offering a selection of any 3 sharing plates or desserts for R220. The best way to enjoy Giles’ cooking? Gather a few friends (3 at least) for a weekday lunch. Fridays are a bit more popular, so call ahead to book a table.

4 Lunch specials gives you a choice of 12 plates. Save 2 plates aside for dessert (the madeleines are legendary!) and then spread your 10 dishes across the menu. Giles is constantly on the hunt for independent wine producers, so finding a beautiful bottle of something local is almost a given. Wine makers such as David & Nadia, David Niewoudt and Duncan Savage feature to make this a meal to remember.

Dinner – Tue to Sat 6pm to 11pm
