Right, so last week we published an article with our summer wishlist for restaurants. Go and check it out and see if you agree with us.
We got great feedback from our readers, so here are some of the ones we thought were worth publishing:
I think a wonderful idea for summer restaurants would be to make a little library corner outside where people can come and read short stories or classic books. Even just design books or something that's creative and inspiring! We need to make reading books cool again and slyly working it in when you're sipping on a rum cocktail and enjoying your salad - the best book reading partners those!! To many people read from their phones (me included) – Sonja.
Kerry had 3 good suggestions:
1. Create an outdoor lounge area - there is nothing better than sitting in the sun and being completely comfortable.
2. Please don't play the same music over and over again - especially those awful 21st mixes.
3. It would be great to see a signature drink from a restaurant, something that you would be known for - like how Mozambik has their signature R & Rs. It feels like you are on holiday while you are there.
When arriving at a restaurant that has outside seating, I find that one first has to go into the building of the establishment, to be shown a table outside. Rather restaurants and pubs would do well to have staff at the entrance of the outdoor area assigning tables – Colin.
Gail wants: More restuarants with live music in Sandton and Johannesburg!
Anne wants smaller portions:
Provide smaller portions (at lower prices) for pensioners.
I can no longer eat the gargantuan meals I used to enjoy, as a youngster in my 50’s. The sight of a plate piled high with food gives me indigestion before I start eating. I am sure other pensioners feel the same, and would welcome the opportunity to order smaller portions – at a suitably lower price.
And finally Talitha likes to stay cool:
My best summer restaurant is one with a properly functioning air conditioner. This is especially applicable to those restaurants stuck inside a climate controlled (for climate controlled read overheated) mall.
The drinks must be cold, the ice must be clinkly and the air conditioner must be able to chill my overheated skin after schlepping through the hot summer air to get there.
As you can tell, I'm not a fan of summer, so as long as I stay cool, I'm good.
We loved your feedback guys. I must say my favourite idea was the one for a book corner. Let’s hear some more of your thoughts below.
