Eat Out 2013 Top 10 Restaurants: 20 nominees announced

 
It’s that time of the year again. Where 20 of South Africa’s top restaurants are nominated to be short-listed for the prestigious 2013 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards.

On Sunday 10 November  the Eat Out Top 10 restaurants for 2013 will be announced.

This year’s nominees, in alphabetical order:
 
Bread & Wine – back in favour, absent since 2008.
Camphors at Vergelegen  – the new guy with PJ Vadas at the helm.
Delaire Graff Estate Restaurant – edged into last year’s Top 20. Will they make the Top 10 this year?
DW Eleven-13 – last year’s number 6 and one of only 3 restaurants not based in the Western Cape.
Five Hundred – Gauteng’s second representative and one to watch this year.
The Greenhouse – No 8 last year, winner in 2011.
Hartford House – Last year’s 10th position and the only representative from KZN.
Indochine – not included in 2012’s Top 20.
Jordan Restaurant – number 3 last year.
The Kitchen at Maison – newcomer to the awards.
La Colombe – 7th place in 2012.
Makaron – just look at the gallery and you will see why.
Overture – number 4 last year, but we are expecting a jump this year.
Pierneef à La Motte – also made the Top 20 last year.
Planet Restaurant – made the Top 20 in 2012.
The Restaurant at Waterkloof – finally they crack the Top 20.
Rust en Vrede – number 5 in 2012.
The Tasting Room – runner-up in 2012
The Test Kitchen – winner in 2012.
Tokara – could this be their year to make it into the elite Top 10.
 
In addition to the Top 10, the Restaurant of the Year, Eat Out San Pellegrino Chef of the Year, and the winner of the Service Excellence Award will be announced.
 
Six ‘Best of’ awards will also be announced on the night: the Jacobsdal Best Steakhouse Award, Best Asian Restaurant, Best Italian Restaurant, Best Country-style Restaurant and Best Bistro, as well as the winner of the Boschendal Style Award.
 
Missing from the list:

Last year’s Number 9, Terroir.
The Foodbarn?
Babel – the breathtaking restaurant at Babylonstoren.
The Roundhouse?
Bizerca Bistro – have not been in their new premises for the year required to qualify.
Pot Luck Club still not eligible after being excluded from the original Top 20 nominees last year due to not being open a year are once again left off due to their new premises at the top of the tower at the The Biscuit Mill.
