2012 Eat Out Awards winners

Sunday 25 November, Cape Town –

The winners of the 2012 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards were announced at a glittering awards ceremony in the Grand Ballroom at The Westin Cape Town tonight.

A four-course meal was prepared for distinguished guests by top chefs, and the new Top 10 restaurants were announced, along with the winners of the awards for best steakhouse, bistro, Asian, country-style and Italian restaurant, and finally the Boschendal Style Award.

Top restaurant in SA

The Top Restaurant in the Country for 2012 is the Test Kitchen cementing Luke Dale-Roberts’ position as a top player in South Africa with his reputation now going global.

This trendy Salt River eatery is a clear favourite among locals and foreigners with Dale-Roberts’ other newer restaurant, The Pot Luck Club, touted as a strong contender for number one position in 2013.

Regular on the Top 10 list and previous winner The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais came in 2nd place this year, one up from last year.

Chef of the Year went to Margot Janse of The Tasting Room and The Service Excellence Award to Rust en Vrede.

National category winners:

Cafe del Sol won best Italian Restaurant in SA.  9th Avenue in Durban picked up the Best Bistro accolade. Go Durban! Giorgio Nava’s Carne SA walked away with Best Steakhouse and Fresh at Paul Cluver took Best Country Style Restaurant. Saigon on Kloof Street in Cape Town took Best Asian. The Green House at Babylonstoren was awarded The Boschedal Style Award.

9. Terroir (Stellenbosch)
10. Hartford House (KZN)
