Had dinner here last Wednesday. Ok, but not impressive. Not good value for money - many better value for money Asian-type venues in Cape Town.

Being incredibly fussy about sushi - freshness, taste and presentation, I felt a little anxious about my order of sashimi and a miso soup. Saigon pullled out all the stops. It was probably the most delicious sashimi I have had in CT. Daruma still my best but Saigon a good second and Willhoubys third.

Went with my wife and a friend to Saigon for dinner last night. Greeted with a warm smile on entry and to a warm and buzzing restaurant. The meals being served to the patrons sitting at the table next to us looked good so we were expecting good things. The sushi to start was good, the filling of the tuna inside out rolls particularly so with the portion being large (a good thing in sushi's case). The dim sum was fair, with the pork filling mashed to a cream and devoid of any gratifying texture. My main of caramalised pepper pork arrived, insipid pieces of pork drenched in fish sauce. Definitely not what was advertised. I sent it back and opted for more sushi at no cost. My wife had the kingklip main at the waiters recommendation, a rather strange ensemble of eggplant, sweet potato and kingklip, the kingklip was arguably one of the worst quality pieces of fish I have seen served in a restaurant, frozen for months clearly and the attempt to revive it having failed dismally. At R135 its clear why the waiter would push this as they margin on this dish must be huge given the quality of the fish. Service was good and efficient but the sushi alone was not special enough to bring me back in a tearing hurry.
