#ThrowbackThursday Recipes

One of my favourtie memories from when I was a kid on holiday in Kasouga in the Eastern Cape was the pink and white coconut ice my Granny Anne used to make especially for me.

I was the only girl of all her grandchildren and the pretty pink treats were always made in my honour. It was our special bonding thing and the boys were never in on it. I don’t think they cared much, because she regularly baked a ton of stuff, but it was always so special to me. I have never ended my love-affair with coconut ice.

So from this Thursday onwards we are going to honour those wonderful foodie memories with a #ThrowbackThursday recipe on our home page, on our Twitter, Facebook page and even on News24!

Don’t be embarrassed by chicken and mushroom vol au vents, crepe Suzettes, meatloaf, baked duck à l’orange and mushroom stroganoff!  Remember baked Alaska, custard slices, pineapple Cremora tarts, banoffee pies and rice pudding? Let’s celebrate the incredible amount of love that went into making  these dishes from our past.

Bring out the doilies and fire up that cheese fondue. Food24 is going retro every Thursday and we’d love you to join us.

So please email us on editor@food24.com, suggest some recipes and share your happy memories with us. Tweet us on @food24 pictures of your #ThrowbackThursday recipes and we’ll give them the attention they deserve. If you even decide to make one recipe from this newsletter we’ll be so happy.
