Chocolate hugs

“Whoopee and ya-haaay”, it’s Easter, a long weekend and time for some sweet indulgence.

Having children is fun, but I thought I would feel older and more grown-up. Whilst there are sleep-deprived times when I feel older than Martha Stewart, they’ve awoken the child in me and its family holidays like this that really bring it out.

I can’t wait to see the magic in my 2 little imps’ faces when they find brightly coloured eggs in trees and bushes, running around in their pjs and bare feet in the early morning.

I’m going to add some little bouncy balls, face-paint and other goodies so they don’t have a complete sugar overload, and that should keep them busy whilst I cook for a humungous lunch.

I have wonderful memories of a groaning Easter lunch table with lambs and hams with roast potatoes and my mum’s famous meringues with strawberries and cream. A mountain of chocolate eggs were gorged on and I never suffered from a sore tummy (one of my talents). Happy days indeed.

I am thinking of going more contemporary this year for something a little different. I’m thinking to do lots of tapas to pick on like this spicy calamari salad and this roasted onion dip with lots of toasty pitas.

For main I’ll do some gourmet boerie rolls with separate toppings for a build-you-own-boerie which the kids love and I’ll top it off with a humungous Easter pavlova – you can go wild with the toppings on this one.

Simple, easy and FUN.

What will you be up to this lovely long weekend? Perhaps you’ll be celebrating Pesach and indulging in Passover food or maybe you’ll just be diving into the holiday with some superb braai action and loads of relaxing.

Whatever you’re up to, make sure to eat lots, be happy and tell someone you love them.

With a full chocolate belly,
