Mom’s best recipes

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend and I don’t know about yours, but my mom is a wonderful cook. She is spot on with my favourite flavour combinations and there is always a hundred percent feel good value. My mom is my best cook.

A particular favourite of mine is her lamb curry (she likes them Durban curry hot) and her Pavlova is something to behold.

We asked people around the office to send in their mom’s signature dishes and wow did we take a tasty walk down memory lane.

Caro’s mom’s speciality hit-list includes cheesy fish on a pile of mash with peas and a lemony cheesy sauce, lamb knuckle stew and creamy mash, Marie biscuits in warm sugary milk and cottage pie

Shaina’s (American) mom does an awesome brisket and her roasted chopped potatoes are out of this world.

Xaxa’s mom (although her Dad is apparently the cook in the house) brings out her best with ginger pudding, homemade custard, fish stroganoff and lasagna.

Lili’s mom enjoys Italian and French cooking – rustic, wholesome and delicious. One of her best dishes is Osso bucco with gremolata and risotto.

Danielle’s mom does the best chicken curry she has ever tasted and although Robyn’s mom rarely cooks (her dad also rocks the apron in the house) a couple of times a year she cracks out a glorious peppermint fridge tart.

Zayaan’s mom does a mean chicken pie and fried chicken with yellow rice.

We are all drooling by now at these wonder-dishes courtesy of our colleagues, but unfortunately, we don’t have the actual recipes from their moms (we’ll be asking for them no doubt). So, here are some food24 offerings that we hope will come close to doing mom’s best recipes justice.
