Prizes were handed out last week to some of South Africa’s best (and most loved!) neighbourhood restaurants and cafes at the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries Awards ceremony. We reached out to the winners to ask them to share some of their top secret, all-time favourite recipes with you.

We’ve collected them all here – we have recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Lots and lots of dessert!

For a breakfast with some hidden veggies, try this great flapjack recipe. It’s a great option for vegans, or if you’re feeding a crowd for brunch. La Coco C recommends serving with coconut yoghurt, or a dollop of fresh cream.

Lunchtime rolls around, and we can’t get over this healthy lunch bowl of salmon and seaweed salad by Kyoto Garden Sushi. You’ll need a few ingredients from an Asian supermarket, but the recipe is super easy and delicious.

If you’re looking for an easy salad that is sure to impress, then you need to try SAINT’s Burratta and orange salad with crispy Italian sausage. It’s just begging to be served with a chilled glass of white wine on the verandah.

Dessert at lunch? We say definitely! These chocolate brownies from Avontuur are an all-time best seller and have been on their menu for over 15 years. Sometimes the classics cannot be improved!

For dinner, we can go Asian with Momo Soko or Italian with Guilio’s. The Bangkok Bowl is a delicious bowl of beef, soy, mint, garlic all served on Basmati rice. Serve with some soy sauce, a touch of crunchy Asian slaw and nice cold beer.

Penne con zucchini
is a super easy, budget-friendly weeknight recipe. Swap out the cheese with nutritional yeast for a tasty vegan dinner. We can’t get enough of this wholesome summer recipe!

Malva pudding is one of the most popular recipes on Food24, and we received two different recipes. Skotnes sent us a recipe for Naartjie malva with macadamia ice cream which has so many layers of flavour and textures. Karoo Art Hotel sent us a more traditional style of malva pudding, a Rooibos malva with salted caramel sauce.

Who doesn’t love a cheesecake? 9th Avenue Bistro sent us a recipe for a classic, and delicious, lemon cheesecake. Serve with salted popcorn and caramel sauce for the ultimate rich treat.
