It’s the 14th of March and that means Pi Day. Not only is it the 16th letter in the Greek alphabet π, and the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter (we assume used for measuring pies), it’s also a day to celebrate our kind of pie.

In honour of our math and science fans, who also love to eat and cook, (and those of us who need no excuse to eat pie) we’ve rounded up the most scrumptious and savoury recipes to get into the spirit.

Dessert first of course:

1.  Spiced apple pie with creamy caramel custard – go decadent or go home.

2.  Chocolate braai pie – a South African favourite.

3.  Banana cream pie – full of fluff and flavour.

4.  Pumpkin pecan pie cookies – a bite sized pie inspired treat.

5.  Cappuccino banoffee pie – coffee and banoffee is basically breakfast.

6.  Lemon meringue pie – a tangy classic.

7.  Pumpkin pie with candied pumpkin seeds – let your butternut shine!

8.  Pecan nut pie – ooey gooey and ultra decadent.

9.  Pear and black cherry pie – tart and sweet.

Savoury pies:

1. Pork, mushroom and butternut pie  – a dinner winner.

2.  Slow cooked lamb and mint pie – mouth watering and minty.

3. Cheesy chicken pie – your new family favourite.

4. Steak and mushroom braai pie – golden, crunchy and hearty.

5. Smoked snoek and spinach phyllo pie – flakey, fishy and refined.

Pi Day complete.
